Pfizer
Pfizer的数据科学组织横跨R&D、 pharma technology、global medical and safety三大板块。
GMS的DS处理real world evidence和post-market surveillance,直接面对regulatory inquiry。
错误版本:"Developed machine learning models to predict patient response, achieving 85% accuracy." 正确版本:"Led statistical modeling for Phase II oncology trial; survival analysis informed dose escalation decision reviewed by FDA in Type B meeting."

anaged by two senior scientists and one principal statistician.
2024年一个真实的case:Pfizer public dataset on vaccine immunogenicity,要求candidate walk through how to handle immunobridging analysis between adult and pediatric populations, including non-inferiority margin justification and regulatory precedent。
一个真实的反馈案例:candidate坚持认为Bayesian design优于frequentist,但在讨论中 dismissive of regulatory preference for type I error control。Notes:"strong technical, low collaboration flexibility." Rejected.
Committee members包括hiring manager, two peer reviewers, 和一位来自不同business unit的director。
他们会在30分钟内决定hire or no-hire,rarely hold for more candidates。
薪资结构(2025年New York/New Jersey market,senior ds level):base $175K-$210K,RSU $45K-$75K annually(vesting 4 years with cliff),bonus 15%-22% of base target。Principal level jumps to base $220K-$260K,RSU $80K-$120K,bonus 20%-25%。
Director and above typically equity-heavy with LTI components。

选一个public dataset(如Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System),写一份mini-SAP,跑一遍分析,生成CSR-style的summary。
FDA guidance document:Adaptive Design Clinical Trials for Drugs and Biologics(2019),以及Estimands and Sensitivity Analysis in Clinical Trials(2021)。
- 模拟一次"explain your model to a clinician who doesn't trust AI"的对话。
录音,回听,删掉所有"the algorithm""black box""complex"这样的词,换成"decision support""transparent rule set""clinically interpretable threshold"。
一个2024年被rescinded offer的案例:简历写"led analysis for Phase III trial",LinkedIn写"supported statistical analysis for Phase III trial"。
Published 3 papers in top-tier journals on deep learning rewards in medical imaging",作品集链接是一组arXiv preprints。
Developed deep learning framework for histopathology image analysis; methodology adopted by oncology biomarker team for companion diagnostic development"。
作品集包含:publication的reproducibility workflow(Docker container + pinned package versions)、synthetic data demo、以及一个one-page business case explaining why this approach reduces pathologist review burden in a regulated setting。
Panel feedback:missed the point; in pharma, parsimony is often a regulatory feature, not a bug.
I considered ensemble approaches and benchmarked them. For this indication, the gain in AUC didn't justify the loss in interpretability for regulatory submission. We documented this trade-off in the SAP and the agency accepted the simpler model with clearer mechanistic linkage to the endpoint."
Director follow-up:"如果他们的concern不是数据是risk tolerance呢?" Candidate repeated: "More data."
GOOD:准备一个specific scenario。
"In my previous role, our regulatory lead was concerned about a subgroup analysis we proposed for the CSR. Her concern was precedent-based: FDA had questioned similar subgroup definitions in a recent complete response letter. Instead of arguing methodology, I pulled the relevant FDA review documents, mapped the differences in endpoint definitions, and proposed a revised subgroup specification that addressed the precedent concern while preserving our scientific question. She endorsed it, and we included it in the submission."
FAQ
简历里没有一句pharma内容,但他在cover letter(是的,Pfizer still reads them for experienced hires)里explicitly mapped his experience: "A/B testing at scale taught me rigorous counterfactual design; clinical equipoise and RCT integrity require the same discipline, with higher stakes." 他在technical panel里被问到causal inference in observational data,用pharma术语(target trial emulation, negative control outcome)回答了propensity score的limitation。Hired。
一个被positive feedback的作品集案例:candidate用了SEER-Medicare的public use file,做了oncology survival analysis,代码在R markdown里,output是knitted PDF with regulatory-style tables and figures。关键细节:她included a README that started with "This is a self-directed learning project simulating the analytical standards of a regulatory submission package. It has not been reviewed by FDA or any regulatory authority."
另一个反面案例:candidate提交了一个shiny app with interactive visualization,但没有任何documentation of data lineage或analysis decision log。Feedback: "pretty but not trustworthy。" 不是"mock package是pretentious",而是"没有transparently labeled as mock的package是risky的"。
在Google,你的career progression largely determined by peer review of technical depth and product impact。在Pfizer,你的promotion packet需要regulatory affairs sign-off on any submission you led,需要clinical team attest to your collaboration quality,需要compliance确认你没有uncleared deviation。
这不是formal requirement,是unwritten but universally understood expectation。不是"Pfizer slower",而是"Pfizer的milestones more tightly coupled to regulatory calendar而非fiscal quarter"。另一个implication:你的visible impact may lag your actual contribution by 2-3 years,因为drug development cycle就是那么长。
